It is not a technology or a product but it is a combination of culture, people, process, and technology. We can think of it as a combination of application development and systems operations activities. Agile development and testing methodology help us to meet the goals of continuous integration, development, build, deployment, test, and release phases. It provides mechanism for constant feedback from different teams and stakeholders. Every important change to an application’s configuration or source code is stored in a version control system such as GIT or SVN. It triggers the creation of a new cycle of the pipeline with a new build. Every time a change is made to the source code, the resulting executable file, WAR or EAR file is build and tested. The practice of building and testing your application on every check-in is known as continuous integration. Continuous delivery depends on continuous integration — and continuous integration depends on automation.
